On Saturday, April 28th the Indian American Kerala Center was jammed with young Indian talents from the tri-state area. The day-long competitions were Part I of the Center's year long youth festival. It was followed by the Center's 11th Anniversary celebrations. Children in four age categories participated in various talents- Bharat Natyam, Folk Dance, Western Dance, Indian Music, and Speech. Since everyIndian language was treated separately, the participants got more and Better chances at winning. This along with expanded age categories, attracted alarge number of children to the event, and the competitions lasted from 9.30am. to 4.30pm. Two accomplished artists, Molbin Joseph and Lalitha Abraham were the judges. The whole event was coordinated by Joseph K Joseph,who is widely known and liked for his rapport with young Indian talents andtheir parents. The Kerala Center's 11 Anniversary celebration started at 5.30 pm with thelighting of the traditional lamp by singer Santha Madhu. It was followed a prayer song by Bincy Cherian. Molbin Joseph presented a Pooja Dance that enchanted one and all. The highlight of the program was the appearance of the Center's Miss Kerala USA Philanta Manuel. She also received the specialguests of the evening, Sreenivasan Sundar, the outgoing President & CEO and country manager (USA) of the State Bank of India and his successor T.R.Vaidyanathan. Both, Sundar and Vaidyanathan addressed the audience while the later also presented the awards to the winners at the Youth FestivalPart I. Kerala Center President E.M. Stephen, presented a plaque to the Outgoing State Bank of India chief Sreenivasan Sundar for his outstanding professional Services to the Indian community in USA. Dr.Thomas Abraham,Kerala Center's Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Raju Thomas, Associate Secretary of the Center also spoke briefly. Lalitha Abraham servedas the MC. |
